Before the 1920's

Before the 1920's, Women were seen as property of men. Men were allowed to take full control of their wives and not be punished for their acts towards them. Any money that the wife made was automatically given to the male for him to inherit. The 19th amendment was passed in the year of 1920 to give women the right to be independent before, during and after a marriage.

Statistics

As the chart to the left show us, since 1993 the amount of men being abused has stayed at a steady number but the amount of women has made an extreme downfall. With the social media being a huge factor, the government and organizations are now able to present ways to prevent abuse that occurs within couples. With October being the month that represents domestic violence, it allows people to express their feelings and tell their stories before it happens to anyone else. A relationship can be saved every single day by the people who are not afraid to their violent stories because then current victims can follow what these survivors have done to move on and live more content whether it's by themselves or back with their spouse.
