Dating abuse has become more problematic in today’s era of relationships that will affect 1 in 3 women in the United States (Samaritanhouseva.org).  Dating abuse tends to spawn from the insecurities of the significant other. The perpetrator uses several types of abuse to regain the lack of power they feel they have.  Abuse comes in many forms and is not always easily identifiable.  The most common form of abuse is emotional, although it may not sound like much, emotional abuse can be more harmful than physical abuse.  Physical abuse can range from threats and shoving to full assaults on the victim, resulting in serious injury and even death.   Abusive relationships are nearly impossible to escape making dating abuse such a social injustice.  Most women, once sucked in, are not able to leave due to fear or the wishful thinking of ‘things getting better’.  Dating abuse effects a wide variety of men and women no matter of age.  Dating abuse has become a huge social injustice to our society and its time we put a stop to it.  “Nearly 1 in 3 homicides in Virginia are the result of dating abuse “(saraitanhouseva.org).  If we don’t end this social phenomena now, we are putting our future generations at risk to be mentally and physically broken.  By bringing dating abuse into the spot light we can put an end to this barbaric social injustice.  Raising awareness is only half the battle, people need to know that abuse isn’t normal and it’s not acceptable.  We have made an effort to help victims but we need more safe houses and outlets for victims to get back on their feet.  Many laws and policies are cracking down on domestic violence but only few states have started include dating violence in to those laws as well.  We as a society should be as committed as possible to end this socially constructed injustice.
